Evernote - Note Organizer

Cloud based collaborative shopping lists

Looking for the a more capable not app? Hold on a second, you might just have found your champion. Evernote encourages you to completely ditch pen and paper when it comes to notes, reminders, to-do lists and whatever else you would usually keep on a sticky fridge post-it note.

What makes Evernote special is that it incorporates a lot of little tools. You begin creating a note by selecting one of six options, them being Text, Handwriting, Camera, Attachment, Audio and Reminder. They all point to the same editable space though from which you can again access all features.

The text editing tools are much more refined than you would get in a standard note app. Besides applying standard text formatting like bold or strike-through, they also feature indentation, lists, superscript and under-script among other stuff. Therefore, it's rather easy to note numbers with exponents or even chemical formulas. Checkboxes are very useful for shopping or to-do lists, as they can be checked or unchecked even outside editing. Of course there wouldn't be much of a point otherwise.

In regards to the Camera and Audio options, you can link any sort of media content to your notes, but you can also take photos and record audio. The camera is also used for one very interesting function, document scanning. If you hold the camera over a business card for example, Evernote will pick up on it's margins and import a clean cut version of it, ready to be placed into your note. The praemium version of Evernote can also do some OCR and extract data, but nothing of this sort can be done in the free version though.

All notes can have reminders be set to them and can be checked "as done". The notes list itself works as a to-do list, where notes that have reminders can be organized by date. It's a fairly useful feature, as it allows for some note complexity without sacrificing intuitiveness.

You can also chat and let friends collaborate with you on your notes. You can start such a collaboration by sending an invite link via SMS. I noticed a little problem here. Evernote only picks up on contacts from the SIM card. So if you ever want to share with a buddy who's number you have saved in the phone memory, you'll have to copy it to the SIM first. The search box suggest that you can also invite by email, although that would still search through your phone contact list.

Evernote - Stay Organized

The Basic (free) Evernote license can be used on up to two devices. The note base is saved in the cloud which allows up to 60 MB of uploads per month. Want more? Go Plus or Premium. The many features are also enhanced on these versions also.
